Chapter 34: Conqueror of the Stars

/ 57

Page 1

This page of panels depicts Radahn descending from the stratosphere onto the Wailing Dunes, as was described in the previous chapter.

Radahn falls.

Radahn slams into the Wailing Dunes, causing a great explosion. The earth quakes, the sand is kicked high up in the air, and the bodies of Tarnished are flung into the sky.

Page 2

In the outer worlds, the hitherto-losing tribe rallies, putting their foes into rout as Radahn's symbol shines magnificently in the night sky.

The knights repulse their foes from the castle, staining the castle courtyard with blood and guts.

The bully recoils from the child, having been beaten by the sharp rock and bleeding.

The child raises the rock high above their head, prepared to bring it down once more.

Page 3

The cliffs surrounding the Wailing Dunes are spattered by the rush of wind and sand.

The surviving Tarnished are sprayed - nay, assaulted - by the heated sand.

The geography of the Wailing Dunes has dramatically changed from the impact. Bodies rain from the sky. The scene is apocalytpic. In the sky, the stars are rapidly running, as if fleeing from the man who was once called the Conqueror of the Stars.

Page 4

Radahn stares at the Tarnished defiantly, from his crater at the bottom of the Wailing Dunes, which he just created. It is as if he is saying, "You lot don't even measure up to half of me."

Meilyr, Jerren and Goldmask watch with apprehension.

The Prophet and Yuina, the most religious of the main cast, are stunned beyond belief.

Gareth and Rhys watch; victory was literally in their hands not long ago.

Page 5

Gareth is beyond all belief.

Gareth, known for his distate for bloodshed (which is a little ironic given his history), begins to bark loudly and frantically. Gareth: KILL HIM! KILL THAT MAN!

All of the Tarnished, on pure nerve juice, rush to Radahn in a jubilant war cry, as Radahn roars. Rocks fly above Radahn's head, by his magical influence.

Page 6

The rocks coalesce around Radahn's Starscourge Greatswords; they also combine into floating comets (I know they aren't actually comets but it's cooler to say, alright) above his head.

Radahn bashes his Starscourge Greatswords against the Tarnished, who explode underneath their weight; with the rocks clustering around them, they're more like hammers than swords.

Radahn scatters the comets around him, causing a general frenzy and madness to the fight.

Page 7

Yuina and others charge forth. Yuina: HAAAAAAAH!

Yuina raises the Rusty Anchor high above her head; it is brilliant with gold.

The warriors slam their weapons into Radahn's face.

Radahn brings his weapons down, dashing them into pieces.

Gareth and Nepheli tap their feet rhythmically on the ground, summoning the storm.

Page 8

Gareth and Nepheli leap into the air, along with Blaidd, toward Radahn.

Radahn slams them back with his stony swords.

Lionel the Lionhearted and Therolina distract Radahn with projectiles, the Ancient Death Rancor and Holy Water Pots respectively.

Elemer is preparing the Marais Executioner's Sword, twisting it rapidly in a corkscrew.

The sword flies into Radahn's body like an arrow.

The sword twists and twists, ripping apart and throwing out Radahn's flesh.

Page 9

In the background is the Crucible Knight and the Leonine Misbegotten.

The Misbegotten runs forward, while the Crucible Knight raises their sword into the air.

Golden wings sprout from the Crucible Knight's back, as they raise their sword high into the air victoriously.

He and the Leonine Misbegotten dive into Radahn, as Elemer retracts his sword back.

Radahn roars, knocking them back with gravity.

He smashes his blades onto the both of them.

Page 10

Radahn brings his blades against Elemer, who has brought up his shield.

Elemer's shield and armor are broken from the impact.

Page 11

Radahn notices the Prophet ablaze nearby him. (Oh, I forgot Radahn is blinded from the continuing attacks on his eyes.)

The Prophet puts his hands on the ground. The ground hums with fire.

Radahn is caught in a pillar of fire.

Page 12

Radahn screams in the intense fire.

The flame is so intense that Radahn is even blown upward by the pillar.

The fire is so hot that the gold on the Prophet's hands begins to melt again, as had happened when he tried to burn Volcano Manor down.

Radahn shouts as he is buffeted by the flames, like a balloon.

He summons his strength, using gravity to ground himself back onto the ground.

His gravity causes the flames to part around him, into a sphere. Radahn's visage, burnt by the flames, comes out of the flames to sneer at the Prophet.

Page 13

Goldmask is watching the battle above, on top of the crater. He is in the stance of the Law of Regression.

Goldmask completes the gesture.

The fire snaps back over Radahn, engulfing him again.

The Prophet continues to burn and burn, but clearly the strain is overcoming him.

The Prophet collapses, from the pain of his own flames searing his flesh.

Radahn is released from the flames, his armor charred black and his flesh cracked and eaten away. Jerren and Freyja run towards him.

Page 14

Jerren: Let the flames of the Redmanes stop you then. Jerren and Freyja sets their swords ablaze.

The two cut into Radahn's flesh, with many other Tarnished joining them.

Radahn is about to retaliate, but magic swords fly into Radahn's flesh.

It's revealed Jerren, Rhys and Leda are casting magic swords and needles in the air.

Alexander and Anastasia cling to one of Radahn's legs; Anastasia is madly tearing into Radahn's flesh with her teeth.

Tragoth, broken, is firing crossbow bolts against Radahn; Latenna is also firing arrows. I guess Morrowe also has a crossbow, so he's shooting too.

Page 15

Radahn cries the Starcaller Cry, using gravity to pull everyone closer to him.

With another shout, he pulls everyone upwards into the air, where they dangle helplessly. Radahn floats with them.

Page 16

He twists his body rapidly, like a top.

He winds around them like a drill, cutting the Tarnished up.

Page 17

The Tarnished and their body parts fall onto the ground, gravity resuming.

The Bloody Fingers, including Okina and Reane, are closing in on Radahn, in this window of opportunity in the battle.

Page 18

They all cast the Bloody Slash with their respective weapons, Okina the Corpse-Piler. The crater is painted in blood.

Radahn cuts them all up anyway.

Page 19

Reane's arm is chopped off.

Her vision becomes blurry. Reane, thinking: Shit! That's all I got!

Okina, who has a giant gash across his chest, stands up.

He continues cutting Radahn up.

Radahn slams his swords, more like cleavers, down on Okina.

And yet, Okina stands up again.

Page 20

Radahn looks up; he's surrounded by Tarnished at the rim of the crater.

Page 21

Yuina, with Leda. Yuina: LET'S GO!

Meilyr, with Goldmask and Jerren. Meilyr: COME ON!

The Tarnished, unbroken, rush down to fight Radahn, regardless of the supposed invincibility of the god.

Page 22

Yuina leads her side of Tarnished, bringing her shining blade down.

Meilyr jumps down, lightning imbuing his blade. He is leading the charge of his Tarnished.

The Tarnished plunge their weapons into Radahn; ominously, Radahn waves his swords down.

Comets, from way up high in the sky, descend into the crater.

Page 23

The top of the crater, the comets plummeting into it. There are no Tarnished at the top.

The comets fall, causing many explosions; only the smoke floats up from the crater.

Page 24

Silence at the top of the crater.

Someone is coming up.

It's Radahn, burned, bloody, bruised and exhausted from the battle.

Page 25

Radahn, as he was introduced, are pulling Yuina, Gareth, Rhys and Morrowe up with him.

He collapses on his knees, exhausted.

He pushes Yuina's body before him, breathing hot breath on her. It seems he intends to eat her.

Voice offscreen, from behind Radahn: Hey.

Meilyr, beaten up and wounded: It's not over. Goldmask is standing right behind him, also banged up.

Page 26

Radahn pulls his greatbow out and fires at Meilyr. Meilyr charges at him, regardless.

Goldmask finishes the gesture of the Law of Causality.

The arrow misses Meilyr, barely; it tosses sand over Meilyr's armor.

Meilyr summons lightning down onto his spear.

He cuts into Radahn.

Page 27

Radahn pulls out his greatswords.

He and Meilyr engage in a dance of blades; Meilyr dodges all of Radahn's strikes.

Radahn and Meilyr dance, Radahn cutting into Meilyr's armor, Meilyr into his.

Meilyr, in card: "Nice and intimate, isn't it?"

Radahn, in card: "Aye. A glorious way to die."

Page 28

Meilyr: "Funny you say that..."

Meilyr: "That's not in my plans yet."

Meilyr plunges his spear deep into Radahn's chest.

Meilyr pulls the spear out, opening up the wound to his chest again; the glow of the Great Rune is on Meilyr's helm.

Meilyr briefly sees the Great Rune, in all of its beauty.

Radahn, ashamed, covers the Great Rune with his hand.

Page 29

Meilyr looks at Radahn, almost as if he understands him briefly.

Radahn shouts again, another war cry.

Great gravitational energy is centered around Radahn; the sands of the Wailing Dunes and the weapons of fallen warriors swirl around Radahn.

Meilyr runs away, not wanting to be caught in the blast of it.

Radahn, a great ball of energy, launches himself.

Page 30

The same as when he made himself into a meteor, Radahn flings himself as a great fireball at Meilyr.

Meilyr stops, and plants his feet. Meilyr: I thought I'd talk big, but... Meilyr: I'm no chicken.

Meilyr turns around and faces Radahn, his spear raised horizontally to defend himself.

Page 31

Radahn flies toward Meilyr; Meilyr is covered in a bright orange glow.

Goldmask finishes the gesture of the Law of Regression.

A great golden barrier pushes Radahn back.

It seems like Radahn will truly regress, and follow the laws of the Erdtree.

And yet, Radahn persists, and persists, and persists, pushing back gold.

Page 32

Goldmask is shaky, unable to hold this incantation for much longer.

The golden barrier begins to chip and break.

Gareth runs up to the meteor, along with several other strong warriors: Alexander, Freyja, Blaidd, the Crucible Knight, the Night's Cavalry, the Leonine Misbegotten, Tragoth and Elemer. Gareth: HEART, MEN!

The golden barrier breaks. Radahn is set free.

The warriors block the meteor.

Page 33

The warriors struggle and struggle, straining every muscle of theirs to stop this force once thought immovable.

Gareth struggles so much, he's even on his knees.

Meilyr watches, confused as to what he should do now - whether he should run up to that fireball and try to kill it.

He hears rumbling overhead. Rain falls.

Stormclouds have gathered in the night. Lightning flashes overhead.

The rain falls on Meilyr's helmet, cooling it. Meilyr: Lansseax.

Page 34

The rain cools Radahn's meteor; rain falls on the brows of Radahn and the Tarnished.

Meilyr brings his spear up horizontally, almost as if declaring victory preemptively. Narrator: Meilyr was a man who had never believed in anything. He always looked to what was before him.

Lightning falls in the black void of the sky.

It strikes Meilyr's spear.

Meilyr pulls his spear back behind his head, empowering it with red lightning, as the Ancient Dragons were known to do. Narrator: At this moment, he believed only in himself.

Page 35

In the outer worlds, the had-been-losing tribe repulses their enemies. The sign of the Ancient Dragon cult flashes in the sky.

The knights push their foes out of the castle.

The child successfully flees from their bullies.

Jerren: The lightning of the Ancient Dragons. Jerren: There is a user, even now?

Jerren: The same dragons who fought my lord's ancestors... Jerren: and are used, dimly, by the knights of Leyndell today.

Jerren looks to the struggle between the Tarnished and Radahn.

A break-through; Radahn wins, the Tarnished are knocked over, scattered on the sands.

Page 36

However, Radahn is spent too; he shoots forward, falling face-forward on the sands.

Meilyr: Get up.

Radahn picks himself up.

Unable to stand on the stumps of his legs, he uses his swords as crutches.

He stands tall and proud before Meilyr.

Page 37

Meilyr throws the spear of lightning.

The lightning soars through the air; it is the light of the Golden Order, transformed.

The spear pierces through Radahn's chest, revealing Radahn's Great Rune through a hole in his back.

Page 38

Rain falls on Radahn's tired, exhausted face.

He smiles at Meilyr.

He sways on his swords, collapsing.

He falls down, released into dust, turning to the Erdtree once more. (I guess only Radahn gets this courtesy.)

Page 39

The pieces of Radahn fade into the night sky, returning to the Erdtree. His Great Rune is fallen on the ground. There is only silence, as the warriors watch in bewilderment, not comprehending what happened in the day of battle.

Meilyr steps forward, believing that Radahn is going to recompose and fight again.

He stumbles forward again.

A brilliant flash in the night sky. Lights whirl above his head. Meilyr looks up.

Page 40

The stars in the sky are falling; their fates have been returned to them, the stars may resume their natural course again. Meilyr is lost in the beauty of the stars, each one a warrior in their own right, wandering in the dark of space.

Gareth and Rhys watch, their breaths bated.

A single brilliant star is reflected on their helms.

It shoots past their heads.

Page 41

The star, tucked under the branches of the Erdtree, disappears into the horizon. The Tarnished watch it, a thing as beautiful and magnificent as General Radahn was.

Silence.

Page 42

In the distance, the Tarnished hear a great crack, and see the light from a great explosion.

The light illuminates their eyes; they cover their eyes with their hands.

Light overtakes the panel.

Page 43

Narrator: The final battle of General Radahn, the Battlefield's Lion, and the Conqueror of the Stars, reverberated across all worlds. The tribe celebrates their victory over their bitter enemy.

Narrator: Everywhere, martial feats big and small were demonstrated. The knights celebrate their victory in their castle, having successfully defended it.

Narrator: Interest in the gods was renewed. New adherents were born in the battle. The child has a small moment to themself, out of harm's way. They are carving an image of Radahn.

Page 44

Pillars of blood, from the battle, fill the lake of blood in Mohgwyn.

Ranni watches the moon, and the soaring stars in the night.

She notes her brother's passing with not a little sadness.

Morgott watches the stars fly over the Erdtree. Morgott: ...

Morgott: ...I must act.

Page 45

Return to the Wailing Dunes. Meilyr is still covering his eyes.

He removes his hand, seeing the light has ended.

He stumbles forward again.

In the distance, he sees Patches and Diallos staring at the Great Rune.

Patches is picking his nose. Patches: Wonder how much it costs...

Patches sees Meilyr approaching. Patches: Hey hey hey hey, fellow! I was just...watching it for you! Patches and Diallos backs away.

Page 46

Meilyr stares at the Great Rune, at his feet.

A Tarnished touches him on the shoulder. Tarnished: Fellow. We're fighting -

Meilyr and Tarnished are surrounded by the other warriors, Gareth, Alexander, Blaidd included.

Gareth: You're right, man. We are fighting. Gareth: Pick up your weapon, and fight all of us, to the man.

The Tarnished, ashamed, gives up and runs away.

Page 47

Gareth: Go ahead. It's yours.

Meilyr just stares at it.

Meilyr: ...Why?

Meilyr: What reward is this? Meilyr: Why did we have to fight?

Meilyr: I want to see him again...

Goldmask puts his hand on Meilyr's shoulder.

Page 48

Goldmask gives Meilyr a knowing look.

Meilyr hangs his head down, sadly.

He bends down.

He stretches his hand to the Great Rune.

It passes onto his hand.

He picks it up, its glow shining on his helm.

Page 49

Yuina and Reane, together - Yuina, of course, doesn't recognize Reane. Yuina is sullen to have missed her chance to get the Great Rune. Yuina: Damnit. Damnit.

The Prophet wanders around, his hands in immense pain; gold melts from his burning hands.

The Prophet stumbles upon a body.

The Prophet looks at Istvan's body; it has been cut in two.

The Prophet looks at the body with great sadness.

He tries to throw sand over the body, with his arms. Melina watches him.

Page 50

Morrowe and Millicent walk silently through the Dunes. Millicent: That man...knew every sword swing I would make. Millicent: He knew them better than I know myself.

Morrowe: ... Morrowe: Does this bother you?

Millicent: Not really. Millicent: It was quite entertaining, honestly. Millicent smiles.

Morrowe, in turn, smiles with her.

Millicent: But...what about him? Millicent points.

Millicent is pointing to Elemer, who is grabbing the pieces of his shield and is walking forlorn in the battle.

Page 51

Morrowe: Never you mind about him. Morrowe: Let's be glad we survived that fight.

Morrowe: I mean, did you see that brute?! Millicent smiles.

Reane watches from a distance.

She and Latenna are reunited, at last.

Gareth, Rhys and Blaidd, together. Blaidd: What a sick way to fight, eh. Blaidd: But did you see that afterwards? A falling star, right before our eyes!

Blaidd: I can't fathom how he was holding back something of that scale. Gareth: ...

Page 52

Gareth: If that star held Ranni's fate, Gareth: I would've done the same, if she was my sister.

Blaidd: Eh? But we want to resume Ranni's fate, man. Gareth: ...

Blaidd: Well, anyway. You don't fight living legends every day. Jerren approaches them.

Jerren: I couldn't help but hear you two are in service of Ranni. Rhys: Aye, we are.

Jerren: I used to frequent the Carian household. Radahn was head of the Carians. Jerren: That was, indeed, Ranni's star.

Blaidd: Perfect. Then let's meet where the falling star bit the earth. Blaidd: We'll take up our swords once more, for mistress Ranni. Blaidd leaves, but Gareth and Rhys stay, hanging on Jerren's words.

Page 53

Jerren: ...And, I couldn't help but hear... Jerren: ...

Jerren: Nevermind. Be careful.

Gareth and Rhys bow. Gareth: Thank you sir. For your festival. Jerren: No, thank you two. For relieving me of my service.

Jerren: ...Your generation are not the mightiest Tarnished I've ever seen, Jerren: but I think you are the most incredible. Because you survived, it all.

Jerren: Go forth with fortune, you two. Gareth and Rhys leave.

Nepheli catches up with Gareth and Rhys. Nepheli: Gareth! You're going? Gareth: Yes... I have business to attend to, now that star is fallen.

Page 54

Nepheli: Business? With a star? Gareth: If I could explain how to you, I would.

Gareth: What will you do? Nepheli: ...

Nepheli: Have you heard of the Roundtable Hold?

Gareth: Of course. Nepheli: ! Nepheli: So you know of my father, Sir Gideon Ofnir?

Gareth: No, I - Rhys: You do. He likely told you his name was Roderick.

Gareth: Well, I know a Roderick, but - Rhys: It's him, it's him, I won't explain it.

Page 55

Nepheli: I...fell out of my father's graces. Nepheli: I hoped to bring him back the Great Rune, to return to his favor...

Nepheli: I don't know what to do now. He has always given me his guidance...

Gareth: Nepheli. Gareth: I want you to take over Stormveil Castle.

Nepheli: ! Gareth: Kenneth needs as much help as he can get.

Nepheli: ...I... I can't.

Gareth puts his hand on her shoulder. Gareth: Nepheli. Whenever you are ready. Gareth: I trust you. Completely. You are capable in my eyes.

Page 56

Gareth: I won't tolerate any man calling you their lesser. Gareth: I must go, now.

Gareth and Rhys leave.

Yuina walks around, bummed out. Leda approaches her.

Leda, whispering: ...Are you an adherent of Miquella the Kind?

Yuina, excited: Are you also - Leda puts a finger on her lips.

Leda: Miquella's existence is a bit of a secret, even in this world. Leda: He hasn't been seen for quite a while.

Page 57

Leda: Your sign...is Miquella's sign. Leda: I'm looking for him.

Leda: Do you want to join me?

Yuina: Yes! Please!

Yuina and Leda walk together, talking more.
